Teddy continues the Morse family legacy of charitable work serving on the board for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. He is the chairperson for the annual Ed Morse Golf Classic benefitting Muscular Dystrophy research. Teddy is also actively involved with several military veterans’ organizations and Fort Lauderdale’s “Fleet Week”.
Excellence is pursued and attained under Teddy’s leadership along with the efforts and energy of over 1,450 employees, many of whom have been with the Ed Morse family for over twenty or thirty years! Key among those employees are corporate officers Carmine Colella and Dennis MacInnes.
Carmine Colella, President / COO, has a keen understanding of best practices for dealership management. Between the two of them Rich and Brian have over 50 years of experience in the automotive industry.
The Ed Morse Story
Teddy’s grandfather Ed served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a navigator on a B-25 during World War II. Ed was the recipient of several awards of distinction and medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, one of the nation’s highest military honors. Ed earned this honor after a mission in the South Pacific when the pilot was wounded and the copilot killed. Ed assisted in flying the plane back to their base in New Guinea. After the war, Ed’s first job was as a doorman parking cars for guests at a Miami Beach hotel. In 1946 Ed and his father started a small 20 car fleet rental company, Morse Motors. When their fleet grew to 2,000 vehicles, they merged with National Car Rental where Ed served as Chief Executive Officer. Ed passed on in 2012 at the age of 91, having established himself as a legendary national icon in the automotive industry.
Teddy’s dad, Ted Morse, was born and raised in Miami, worked his way up through the dealership ranks in both sales and service. After several years as General Manager of Ed Morse Chevrolet, Ted moved to the group’s corporate office where he served as Owner/Operator, Chairman, and CEO. Ted was honored as the recipient of the 2015 Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance Automotive Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing the impact that Ted had on the automotive industry. Ted passed away in 2016 at the age of 66 and will long be remembered for his philanthropic work with several local and national charities.
The Morse family bought into their first dealership in 1961, Friendly Ford in Miami, which soon became Ed Morse Ford. Over the next 50 years Ed and Ted added dozens of additional dealerships and realigned their market areas throughout Florida gaining prominence as one of the largest family-owned automotive dealer groups in the country.
Today, the group continues to expand in size, scope and area. Over the past decade Teddy’s push for further growth and development has led to obtaining additional franchises in Florida as well as expanding into Texas, Oklahoma, and most recently, Missouri – including purchasing a Ford dealership and bringing back the name “Ed Morse Ford” after over 50 years!
The group now consists of 24 dealership locations, that house 42 automotive franchises and 15 different domestic and import brands.
From its beginnings through the present day, the Ed Morse Automotive Group has successfully employed a business strategy that has served the interests of its customers and its employees well. That is – having the right product, in the right location, with the right people to sell in volume enabling the company to “sell for less”.
It is much more than advertising slogans to say, “You’re Always Backed By Morse” and “For Value and for Service, it’s Ed Morse.” Those are promises that the company has delivered on by committing itself to excellence, stability and premium customer service for 75 years.
